Masonry Saw Troubleshooting Guide

Masonry saws are useful for such a wide variety of projects, cutting stone, concrete, brick, marble, granite, tile and other materials, that you’re going to rack up mileage on your machine pretty quickly. Even with the highest quality masonry saw, there may periodically be issues that you need to resolve. This troubleshooting guide will help you determine what is causing your problem and help you find a solution so that you and your masonry saw can get back to work doing what you love.

Problem: Saw motor doesn’t start up

There could be a problem with your power supply. Make sure both ends of the cord are plugged in securely and you are using a working outlet. In the switch board, check the power supply, thermal magnet and differential. If everything is in order with your power supply, your cutting disk may be blocked. Carefully check for material that may be obstructing your blade, and remove them. If the disk is not blocked, a damaged switch may be to blame. Try replacing your switch and that should resolve your issue.

Problem: Insufficient cutting power

First, confirm that the blade you are using is appropriate for the material you are cutting; if the blade is not indicated for your specific material, replace it with one that is. If you are using the correct type of diamond blade but are still finding that cutting power is insufficient, your blade might be dull, blunt or worn down. You can try sharpening your diamond blade by running a series of cuts through an abrasive material, such as stone emery, sandstone or concrete. If you can confirm that the problem is not with the blade itself, then the problem may be with the motor, which should be checked by a technician.

Problem: Defective cutting

If your masonry saw is not making clean cuts or is not cutting straight, first check that you are using a blade that is suitable for the material you are cutting, and replace it if it is not. If you are using the correct blade type, check the blade for wear or damage which may prevent it from cutting correctly, and replace the blade if you see any signs of damage. If you continue to experience defective cutting after confirming that there is no problem with the diamond blade, it is possible that your machine is out of alignment. Re-align your machine, and try again.

Problem: Vibrations during cutting

If your masonry saw or blade is vibrating excessively during operation, it is possible that your cutting disk is warped. Check the condition of your blade and replace if necessary. The disk may also be mounted incorrectly; refer to your user guide for correct mounting instructions, and make sure the bridles and motor axis are properly adjusted. Tighten the nut completely when mounting your blade.

Problem: Water does not reach the blade

To ensure correct cutting and prevent premature blade damage, it is important that the cooling water be able to reach the diamond blade during operation of your masonry saw. If water is not reaching the blade, first check that the tap or valve to the water line is open. Fill the water tank to a higher level. If water still is not flowing, check to see if the pump is blocked and remove any obstructing materials. Finally, you may need to replace the water pump if you continue to have this issue.
