Which is Better: An Electric or Gas Masonry Table Saw?

This guide will help you decide which is better for you: an electric or a gas masonry table saw.

When you are shopping for a new masonry table saw, you have many decisions to make in order to find the right one for your needs. From the size to the brand and manufacturer, it can feel a bit overwhelming if you don’t have much experience with this type of machinery.

Depending on the company you choose to buy from, one of the decisions you may have to make is whether to opt for an electric or a gas masonry table saw. Fortunately, choosing one over the other is not as complicated as you might think.

Benefits of electric over gas masonry saws

We should say right off the bat that, in our opinion, electric masonry saws are the most suitable option for most users, which is why we do not manufacture masonry table saws with gas-powered motors. There are several advantages to using construction machinery with electric motors. Some of the major ones include:

1. Personal health and safety

Unlike gas masonry saws, electric-powered motors do not produce harmful fumes that can be very dangerous for the health of the saw operator and people nearby. Electric masonry saws are also much quieter than gas, making them safer for long-term use.

2. Environmental concerns

Similarly, electric saws are considered to be more environmentally-friendly because of the lack of fumes from burning petrol.

3. Flexible work area

Once again, this comes down to the toxic fumes produced by gas saws. Electric masonry saws can be operated indoors without having to worry about ventilating the dangerous products from a gas motor. Gas masonry table saws must always be used in very well-ventilated areas. Electric saws also tend to be smaller and can fit into tighter spaces more easily.

4. More user-friendly

Electric machinery in general is easier to start than gas or petrol, gets running faster and is easier to maintain.

What to consider when choosing a gas masonry table saw vs. electric

With that out of the way, there may be times when gas is the better choice for some customers, although these cases are likely infrequent and very specialized. Essentially, it comes down to you knowing in advance what types of jobsites you will be working in, the resources available there and the sort of cutting work that needs to be done with the masonry saw.

For example, if you know that you will primarily be working in places without access to electricity, a gas-powered masonry table saw may be more practical. This eliminates the need to bring generators and extension cords with you to every jobsite. However, it is important to realize that this only applies if you will be operating the machine in a space with excellent ventilation; otherwise, it is much safer to use a generator outside and run an extension cord inside to where your saw is.

The other potential benefit of a gas masonry saw is that they can generally handle more heavy-duty work than electric. But most users with most tasks will not be compromising anything in the way of performance by option for an electrical motor instead.
