A pavement milling machine, also known as cold planer, are used to quickly remove a layer or a part of a paved surface such as a road or a parking lot. The pavement miller uses a large and rotating drum to remove and grind the surface of the asphalt. This drum usually consists of scrolls of tool holders. Besides, water is usually applied to the drum when milling in order to reduce the produced heat by the machine and minimize the quantity of airborne dust caused.

Working with a pavement milling machine has the great advantage of recycling the road’s surface because after the milling it gets crushed and can be used as a fresh new pavement.
There are two main kind of pavement milling machine: The first one is the electric or gasoline engine pavement milling machine, which has many little blades that turn downwards in order to break the concrete. The second one uses compressed air and wears out the concrete like a bunch of small hammers hitting the concrete.
These machines can be used to straighten or smoothen the surface, to fix different heights or alter other clearances such as curbs, guard rails, gutters, etc.
