Petrol diamond floor sawing on green concrete

When cutting green concrete with your floor saw, it should be done within 24 hours of being poured. To prevent cracks in large slabs when the concrete cures, use the floor saw to cut at a depth that is approximately 1/4 to 1/3 the total depth. Usually, these operations use a diamond blade diameter of around 12 to 14 inches, as permitted by your particular floor saw model. Remember to use a diamond blade specifically indicated for sawing green concrete, as its properties are not the same as cured concrete.

Petrol diamond floor sawing on cured concrete

When cutting concrete after it has fully cured, your choice of diamond blade for your floor saw will depend on the type of aggregate used in the concrete. Often, these cuts require the maximum blade diameter permitted by the machine. To improve speed and blade life, consider cutting in multiple shallow passes instead of cutting the entire depth at one time.

Petrol diamond floor sawing on asphalt or asphalt overlaid concrete

Cutting asphalt with a petrol floor saw requires a diamond blade indicated for asphalt, which is considered a soft and abrasive material. Concrete, on the other hand, is typically much harder, so if you need to cut asphalt overlaid concrete, this will require a different type of blade than for cutting asphalt alone. Depending on the depth of the asphalt or asphalt + concrete, a maximum blade diameter of 18 inches may be necessary. Asphalt is usually cut with a single pass of the floor saw, while concrete is often cut in several passes to avoid wearing down the blade excessively.
